Texas - Marek Mountain Mining and Railroad Company
This is a freelance, narrow gauge railroad that you can ride!
The track gauge is 7 1/2 inches wide (the same gauge that many call "live steam" ).
My railroad will include a track around my home in San Antonio, Texas.
I am building "narrow gauge" equipment, to operate on a freelance railroad
that will be modeling a "two foot gauge" mining shortline, with switching.
My equipment will be in 3 3/4" scale (often rounded to 4inch scale for easy math ).
This means, the equipment will almost be 1/3 the size of the real thing!
Most folks who model trains this size and on this gauge of track, are
in 1 1/2 inch scale or 1.5" to the foot, for "standard gauge" modeling

Washington - Columbia River Northern Railway
Columbia River Northern Railway is a privately owned model railroad located in south central Washington State. The track is 7.5 inch gauge. The CRNR model railroad layout is realistic, environmentally friendly, and fun to ride on. The CRNR has a steam logging theme, but most any rolling stock that can handle the inclines is welcome. The CRNR layout is situated on and around scenic Bighorn Creek, near the Columbia River. The terrain is steep, rugged and mostly wooded, which makes it ideal for a logging railroad layout. We are making extensive use of donated recycled materials. Much of the excavation has been done by hand. We have about 2500 feet of track on the ground with plans for well over 5000 feet, eventually. There are numerous cuts and fills. Four bridges have been constructed to date. The first bridge is made of wood and steel. It measures 49 feet long and nearly 10 feet high. The second bridge is made entirely of wood. It is 75 feet long and about 6 feet high at its highest point. It is built on a curve with an 80 foot radius and a 2% grade. The third bridge is constructed of steel and concrete. A fourth bridge is built of steel and clear spans about 50 feet. Grades on the layout range from 2% to 7%. There are plans for more bridges as construction progresses.
Occasionally, we host events, such as steam logging demonstrations. Check out the links for pictures from past events and recent work.

Washington - Ophir Mine Company Railway
Southwest WA - The Ophir Mine Company Railway is a private 1/8th scale miniature riding railway located in Southwest Washington. Our trains run on 7.5" gauge track, the minimum radius is 25 feet and the ruling grade is 2.5%. The railway is inspired by the industrial mining railways which were constructed in the late 1800's and early 1900's to serve mines in Colorado and Nevada.
The railway does plenty of useful work. We frequently use it to move construction materials that are too heavy to move by hand, like large boulders, heavy timbers, bags of concrete, rolls of chain link fencing, crushed rock, ties, rail and even to move yard debris to the burn pile. Each car is designed to carry at least 600 lbs with ease. The locomotive is capable of speeds up to 12 mph, but 2 or 3 mph is the norm on this short line.
This railway does allow visitors by appointment only.
