Washington - Ophir Mine Company Railway
Southwest WA - The Ophir Mine Company Railway is a private 1/8th scale miniature riding railway located in Southwest Washington. Our trains run on 7.5" gauge track, the minimum radius is 25 feet and the ruling grade is 2.5%. The railway is inspired by the industrial mining railways which were constructed in the late 1800's and early 1900's to serve mines in Colorado and Nevada.
The railway does plenty of useful work. We frequently use it to move construction materials that are too heavy to move by hand, like large boulders, heavy timbers, bags of concrete, rolls of chain link fencing, crushed rock, ties, rail and even to move yard debris to the burn pile. Each car is designed to carry at least 600 lbs with ease. The locomotive is capable of speeds up to 12 mph, but 2 or 3 mph is the norm on this short line.
This railway does allow visitors by appointment only.
