California - Sagebrush Short Line Railroad
Ridgecrest, CA - Sagebrush Short Line Railroad is a privately owned railroad and visitors are encouraged to attend our events. Email or call in advance, as these events are by invitation only.
The Pruitt’s decided to do something with the four acres they lived on. It looked mighty empty with just greasewood and sand surrounding their home in the Mojave Desert. Why not build a 7-½ inch gauge railroad and have it run the length and width of the property! Great idea, right? This way the Pruitt’s could run their trains whenever they want to, and they could invite friends whose interest in 7-½ inch gauge railroading was as enthusiastic as theirs. Well, doesn't everyone want a railroad on their property? You say to yourself, a couple of kooks, right?? Nah! Just a couple of railroad supporters who like to share their interests with those around them. So, that is what George and Linda, along with over 100 volunteers, which are called Tie Owners are doing ...building a railroad, the SAGEBRUSH SHORTLINE RAILROAD to be exact.

Santa Cruz, CA - The Swanton Pacific Historical Railroad Society is dedicated to those who:
Are nuts about trains
Have a love for history
Like to be working on a fun project outdoors
Want live steam maintenance or operating experience
Have or want machine shop, welding, construction or foundry experience
The 1/3 scale railroad is located on the beautiful 3200-acre Swanton Pacific Ranch near Davenport in Santa Cruz County. A dedicated group of volunteers maintain and operate the railroad on behalf of the Cal Poly College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences. The Swanton Pacific Railroad serves as an operational memorial to Al Smith who acquired and relocated the trains to the Swanton Pacific Ranch. The rolling stock consists of three one-third scale Pacific-type steam locomotives that were built for the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition, a diesel switcher locomotive and a variety of passenger and maintenance of way railcars.
