Atlantic and Great Western Railway

The AGW is my freelanced HO scale railroad set in the 1980's. It is a 22,000 mile long carrier stretching from the North Atlantic Seaboard and Canada to the Missouri River and Gulf of Mexico. The AGW has a service area similar to a Conrail, Chicago North Western and Missouri Kansas Texas merger. I model in the 1980's to 1990's time frame. I wanted to model a railroad that could set standards in the industry and compete even in the 1990's era of mega-merger railroads.

Annie's Zoo
The Elsie City Zoo is a small model zoo 2 foot wide and 4 foot long.
It's built in HO scale. HO is a scale of 1 foot on the model being 87 feet in the world I'm creating. So I had to build my zoo in a space 174 feet by 348 feet. It's not much space for a zoo!
My zoo has a Zoo Train. The Zoo Train runs on tracks that would be 30" apart if it were real. Since it's shrunk down 1/87th real size, it runs on tracks 0.3" wide. That, by happy chance, is the same width as N gauge tracks. So I can use some N gauge parts in my Zoo Train.
My zoo is part of the Elsies group. We call the zoo and the other bits of railroad 'modules', and each build one or two modules. We all agree on certain standards that let us connect our modules to each other. So a train can start on one person's module and travel to the next module. We get together at each other's homes and at public events and run our tiny trains.

Arcadia & Betsey River Ry.
Logging in the Pacific Northwest in HO Scale C. 1956. The tracks extend from Arcadia to Eagle Harbor, a distance of about 12 “smiles”. Along the way there is a truck-to-rail reload and a skyline operation with a hayrack for loading the company’s skeleton log cars.
There is also a branch line at Harbor Junction that extends the rails to Hill Camp and Camp 2 in the mountains above Eagle Harbor where two more sides supply the mill with logs. Located near Camp 2 is the Bottom Line Mine and the A&BR moves the mines ore and other freight between the mine and Arcadia.
At Eagle Harbor there is a landing where rafts of logs, cut on a nearby island, are loaded onto rail cars for the journey to the mill. Also located at Eagle Harbor is a branch line to Camp 3 and a railroad car ferry operation which creates bridge traffic for the A&BR between Eagle Harbor and the railroad interchange in Arcadia.

Balboa Granada & Eastern Railroad, an operations-oriented DCC-controlled freelance prototype HO model railroad located in Brookfield, New Hampshire.
The fictitious Balboa Granada & Eastern (BG&E) handles coal, mixed freight, and passenger traffic primarily using steam locomotives. An interchange yard at Franklin Junction serves as a connection to the Boston & Maine, and a division yard at Brunswick is a main service and classification facility for BG&E. Through freight and passenger trains operate over the BG&E, while freight and mixed trains operate along the BG&E corridor.

Bar Mills - Our Wharf Street Layout
For lack of a better name our own layout located right here in our station at Bar Mills is called "Wharf Street".
Not all model railroads are based on prototypes... our is "freelanced" and inspired by the legendary Maine 2-foot lines that ran not so very far away from our headquarters right here in Bar Mills.
If you live for highly detailed waterfront scenes you might want to check out our shop layout !
