Custom Model Railroads specializes in the design and manufacture of custom built and craft-kit structures as well as one of a kind custom built structures. Our kits are modeled on actual buildings and structures which we believe you will find to be unique and deserving of a place on your model railroad.
CMR offers kit building services as well. This includes construction, painting, weathering, window shades, adding extra details and lighting. Construction is museum quality which involves hours of time, orders are built as needed to your specifications by our staff. All CMR kits are manufactured in the USA by CMR using state of the art laser cutting equipment and high quality acrylic. Our laser cutting equipment is accurate to 1/1000th of an inch which allows us to make parts exactly to specification.

Downtown Deco produces a line of finely detailed structure kits. The kits include beautifully detailed Hydrocal castings, plastic Grandt Line doors and windows, full color signs and complete, easy to understand painting & aging instructions. Some kits also include laser cut stencils for painting the large signs on the sides of the structures. These kits are unique in the fact that the master patterns are all hand carved, brick by brick and stone by stone. This gives the buildings a much more realistic look than mass produced plastic or resin kits because it allows me to add much more detail and character to the castings.
A former professional Hollywood Scenic Artist, I founded the company in 1993 after relocating from Los Angeles California.

What started out as a hobby building Fine Scale Miniatures Kits in trade for unbuilt kits to start a collection evolved on to a Weathering & Scratchbuilding Product line (Doctor Ben's Scale Consortium) that we ship worldwide. Just a few years ago we purchased the Thomas A Yorke Ent. Structure line and with the most recent additions of the California Freight & Detail Co-HO & Rail Systems N Scale Modular Structure line we have compiled them all into our own Scale Model Masterpieces Products. And because we believe that quality comes first, the slow progressive release and updates of these products will seem to provide a never ending stream of new products.

DSL Shops products are mostly relief models, intended to be used against a backdrop. Side and back walls and roofs must be added by the modeler to make a full building.
They are made of urethane and must be painted and assembled.

In a modern way we construct the railway track plan with the aid of the computer. Only with his relief the railway track geometry is kept exactly. The different tiers and shadow railway stations, also in the not visible fields, are printed in each case onto a separate plan. You receive 1:10-Plaene true to scale with a parts list of all needed parts. A in colour geplotterter 1:1-Plan serves than that one will transmit 'patterns' on the location lines. The stable underbase becomes from delay-free, repeatedly glued together blockboards, the ribs and location lines from repeatedly glued together produced plywood, that with one CNC are tailored controlled saw on the 1/10mm exactly. Thus a Spantengeruest arises in open frame design of highest accuracy.
The topography (Mountains, rocks and slopes etc.) is built up in classical design on aluminium wire gauze and modelled with plaster.
