Altoona Model Works is a complete prototype and model making facility. Our staff combines old world craftsmanship with computer technology to build simple to complex projects. Our latest endeavor is manufacturing scale model railroad structure kits. This concept can be used for other types of industry, small or large jobs are engineered, tested then manufactured to the stage required.
We have experience and the facility to complete most jobs with proficiency and attention to detail required. Banta Modelworks

Banta Modelworks manufactures quality craftsman kits using a variety of materials. We use industrial lasers for cutting and etching wood and plaster for masonry buildings. Many of our structures are of specific prototype buildings located along the old Rio Grande Southern Railroad or Denver and Rio Grande narrow gauges, Southern Pacific standard gauge, with an equal amount of freelance structures designed to enhance any layout being built to a particular prototype or built to your own imagination.

We released our first HO scale limited run kit, Weiry & Sons, in 1983, and nine more since. And we plan to release many more of these exciting kits featuring plaster cast brick and stonework, laser-cut wood, etched brass parts, and of course plenty of our famous white metal details.
We also offer a full line of Evening Express Series kits which, while smaller in scope than our limited run kits, feature many of the same great components. All at reasonable prices.

We also offer a full line of Evening Express Series kits which, while smaller in scope than our limited run kits, feature many of the same great components. All at reasonable prices.
We are also developing new kits and products. You will find many addtions to our existing parts and well as completely new branches. A big one is our LaserWood product line which includes stair stringers of all slopes and sizes, stair treads, generic wood planking for loading docks, platforms and walkways as well as siding, roofing, fencing. We are currently working on several new kits using these materials that will amaze you. See details below.
