County Gate Open link in new window
the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway in 009 scale

I have built a number of 009 railways in a number of different countries but then took a long break until retiring from piloting aircraft. It was then that County Gate was born.

After some consideration I decided to model a freelance section of the L & B as this offers a greater degree of creative opportunity.

Great Northwestern Railway Open link in new window
A freelanced HO scale switching layout. The railway is set in industrial suburbia, sometime in the late 70’s. The story goes that the GNW bought up an old narrow gauge right of way from the Colorado Southern (itself later merged into the Burlington Route and the AT&SF), including the old R.O.W of the Denver, South Park and Pacific, which the GNW has rebuilt in standard gauge.

HO scale Ogdensburg & Norwood Railway Open link in new window
The O&N is a freelanced, circa 1948 HO scale model railroad layout based, in part, upon the influences of the prototype shortline railroad operated in the late 1960's - early 1970's by my family, running from Ogdensburg, NY on the Saint Lawrence River and U.S. border with Canada, and 25-miles to the east at Norwood, NY and interchange with the Penn Central.

Other major prototype influences include family multi-generational experiences with the NYO&W on its Southern Division, as well as the regional influences of the New York Central, the Rutland, and other interchanging railroads of the period.
